Celebrating 20 Years Partnering with Students Run L.A. (SRLA)

At Keyes Honda, we are extremely proud of the outreach work the Honda Motor Company has done right here in Los Angeles, CA. For the past two decades, the Honda Motor Company has supported Students Run L.A’s (SRLA) mission of helping under-served middle and high school students realize their potential and plot a new course for their future by providing them with a life changing experience—training for and completing the 26.2 mile Los Angeles Marathon. For the 2017 race, the Honda Motor Company supported nearly 2,800 students. Through its 20-year partnership with SRLA, the Honda Motor Company has contributed more than $2 million to provide for student’s uniforms, nutrition, training, and scholarships. The program has been very successful, and each year more than 95 percent of the students who start the race, finish the full course, and nearly 100 percent of the high school seniors who finish the marathon graduate and seek higher education.

SRLA members participate in weekly training sessions for seven months prior to the Los Angeles Marathon, and complete the regimen with stronger confidence and higher self-esteem. At the end of the program, the Honda Motor Company hosts a ceremony in the students’ honor to celebrate their achievements. This year, 350 SRLA high school seniors, SRLA leaders, and volunteers gathered at the American Honda Motor Co., Inc. campus in Torrance, CA for the “Celebrating Dreams Graduation Event.”

To date, more than 63,000 students have participated in SRLA’s training program since its inception in 1989.

Honda Clarity EV and Plug-In Hybrid Make Debut

The New York Auto show is known as the place where brands unveil their latest concept cars and upcoming models. The Honda Motor Company certainly didn’t disappoint with their debut of the latest Honda cars, the Honda Clarity EV and Plug-In Hybrid models. The two all-new electrified Honda vehicles will join the Honda Clarity Fuel Cell, to make the Honda Clarity the first ever vehicle series offering customers an expanded array of electrified vehicle choices with fuel cell, battery electric and plug-in hybrid powertrains.

The Honda Clarity is one of the more spacious vehicles in its class, and features a sophisticated interior with bio-fabrics and plastics extensively used throughout the cabin to promote sustainability.

The terms four-wheel drive, all-wheel drive, front-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive are all disused and we understand that it can be slightly confusing trying to navigate between the differences. The basic drivetrain option available on most passenger cars sold in the U.S. today is a two-wheel-drive system in which the entire drive package—engine, transmission, differential, and the wheels that are driven by the engine—are in the front of the vehicle. This is called front-wheel drive (FWD). Some vehicles are equipped with a different two-wheel-drive system called rear-wheel drive (RWD). The Honda Clarity Plug-in Hybrid and Honda Clarity Electric to Make Debut

At Keyes Honda, we love how the Honda Motor Company is always striving to push the boundaries of new car technology. The Honda Motor Company has recently announced its intention to make two-thirds of its global auto sales from electrified vehicles by 2030. The all-new Honda Clarity Plug-in Hybrid and Honda Clarity Electric will make their official worldwide debut at the New York International Auto Show. The two all-new electrified Honda vehicles will make the Honda Clarity the first vehicle series to offer customers an expanded array of electrified vehicle choices with fuel cell, battery electric and plug-in hybrid powertrains wrapped in a sporty, spacious and comprehensively equipped five-passenger midsize sedan. Each Honda Clarity variant has a low, wide aerodynamic body with unique design elements. Combined with elegant and advanced exterior styling, the Honda Clarity series boasts spacious interiors outfitted with premium, environmentally-responsible materials.

The Honda Clarity Electric will be the first affordable, midsize, five-passenger battery electric vehicle. Combining an all-electric driving range rating in excess of 40 miles with a hyper-efficient gasoline-hybrid extended range mode, the Honda Clarity Plug-in Hybrid will launch in all 50 states. Both vehicles keep the “fun-to-drive” DNA Honda vehicles are known for and each Honda Clarity provides a smooth, quiet and premium experience with great dynamic handling plus seamless advanced technologies.

Prepping Your Car for Warmer Weather

Though, as we start making our way into spring and summer, the temperatures can be extremely hot and it is important that you take steps to prepare your vehicle for the warmer weather.

Spring can be a great time to perform an annual cleaning and checkup on your vehicle. One thing you want to check regularly is the air pressure and tread on your tires. While the weather here allows us to keep all-season or summer tires on our vehicles year round, it is still important to continually check the air pressure and wear on the tires. Proper tire inflation assures the best possible contact between the tires and the road. An improperly inflated tire can overheat, potentially leading to a blowout on the highway.

Inspect other areas of your vehicle such as the air conditioning system and the wiper fluid and wiper blades. The rubber on your wiper blades can dry out in the heat, so it is important to have your wiper blades in good condition. Once you turn your A/C system on, pay attention to any strange noises or odors. Honda and GM Join Forces on Fuel Cell Systems

At Keyes Honda, we are proud of how Honda is constantly pushing the boundaries of new vehicle technology and taking steps to do what is right for the environment. Just last week, the Honda brand and General Motors Co. announced the establishment of the auto industry’s first manufacturing joint venture to mass produce an advanced hydrogen fuel cell system that will be used in future products from each company. The automaker and GM have been working together through a master collaboration agreement announced in July 2013 that established the co-development arrangement for a next-generation fuel cell system and hydrogen storage technologies. The result? An integration of both companies’ development teams and shared hydrogen fuel cell intellectual property to create a more affordable commercial solution for fuel cell and hydrogen storage systems.

Fuel cell technology addresses many of the major challenges facing automobiles today: petroleum dependency, emissions, efficiency, range and refueling times. Fuel cell vehicles can operate on hydrogen made from renewable sources such as wind and biomass. Water vapor is the only emission from fuel cell vehicles. In addition to advancing the performance of the fuel cell system, GM and Honda are working together to reduce the cost of development and manufacturing through economies of scale and common sourcing. The two companies also continue to work with governments and other stakeholders to further advance the refueling infrastructure that is critical for the long-term viability and consumer acceptance of fuel cell vehicles.

Many of the latest Honda cars have focused on sustainable energy, like the Honda Clarity Fuel Cell, which received the best driving range rating from the EPA of any electric vehicle without a combustion engine with a range rating of 366 miles and fuel economy rating of 67 mpg highway*. In addition to current and future fuel cell vehicles, the Honda brand also produces a line of exceptional hybrid vehicles, like the new Honda Accord.
