Honda Clarity EV and Plug-In Hybrid Make Debut

The New York Auto show is known as the place where brands unveil their latest concept cars and upcoming models. The Honda Motor Company certainly didn’t disappoint with their debut of the latest Honda cars, the Honda Clarity EV and Plug-In Hybrid models. At Keyes Honda, we know how much our Los Angeles, CA area customers love electric, hybrid, and fuel cell Honda vehicles and believe that they will be impressed with the latest additions.

The two all-new electrified Honda vehicles will join the Honda Clarity Fuel Cell, to make the Honda Clarity the first ever vehicle series offering customers an expanded array of electrified vehicle choices with fuel cell, battery electric and plug-in hybrid powertrains.

The Honda Clarity is one of the more spacious vehicles in its class, and features a sophisticated interior with bio-fabrics and plastics extensively used throughout the cabin to promote sustainability.

The 2018 Honda Clarity Plug-in Hybrid is anticipated to earn an all-electric driving range rating of 42 miles, and for longer trips, the Honda Clarity Plug-in Hybrid can utilize its efficient 1.5L Atkinson engine to generate electricity and, under certain conditions, to act as a direct power source, resulting in an anticipated overall driving range rating in excess of 330 miles.

The 2018 Honda Electric is powered by a 161-horsepower electric motor that produces 221 lb.-ft. of torque by drawing power from a 25.5-kWh battery pack. The vehicle can be fully charged in just over three hours and is anticipated to have an EPA rule economy rating of 120/111/102 MPGe (city/highway/combined)*.

The Honda Clarity EV and Plug-In Hybrid are expected to reach dealers later this year. If you’re interested in learning more, please stop by your Van Nuys, CA Honda dealer and our expert team will walk you through the Honda Clarity lineup.

Drivetrains at Keyes Honda

At Keyes Honda, when our customers are searching for a new or used Honda vehicle, one thing we often discuss is the drivetrain available on certain vehicles. The terms four-wheel drive, all-wheel drive, front-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive are all disused and we understand that it can be slightly confusing trying to navigate between the differences. We hope that this overview will help break down the basics of the drivetrain options available.

The basic drivetrain option available on most passenger cars sold in the U.S. today is a two-wheel-drive system in which the entire drive package—engine, transmission, differential, and the wheels that are driven by the engine—are in the front of the vehicle. This is called front-wheel drive (FWD). Some vehicles are equipped with a different two-wheel-drive system called rear-wheel drive (RWD). It differs from FWD in that a long driveshaft transmits power from the engine in the front of the vehicle to the driven wheels at the back (versus the front two wheels).

For those looking for a more dynamic driving experience should look at vehicles equipped with all-wheel drive (AWD). By distributing traction equally among all four tires, AWD systems improve the driving experience by providing better traction and handling. AWD can also improve handling in poor weather conditions. This driving system is great to have if you like having increased control around the bends and turns of the road. The Honda CR-V and Honda Ridgeline both have capable AWD systems.

If you are considering taking your vehicle off-road or using your vehicle for towing, then a vehicle equipped with four-wheel drive (4WD) should be on your list. 4WD also engages all four tires and provides better traction and towing. Like AWD, it is a good feature to have in difficult weather conditions like snow, and will help power the vehicle on rocky or uneven ground.

Come by our Los Angeles, CA area Honda car dealership for a test drive and try out the drivetrains systems on our new and used Honda car models

Honda Driver Assist Technologies

The Honda Motor Company is constantly looking for new ways to keep drivers safe and alert when on the road. At Keyes Honda, we love the suite of parking and driver assist features that are available in many new Honda cars. Our customers are often seeking the latest and greatest in car technology and we believe they will be impressed with the newest technology features available. It varies by vehicle, but here are a few of the latest features.

Get a better view of what’s behind you with a Multi-Angle Rearview Camera that offers three different views: normal, wide and top down. This helpful feature offers a better view of what’s behind you every time you shift to reverse.

The Honda LaneWatch™ system helps when switching lanes. Just signal right and a small camera will display live video on your Display Audio screen to reveal nearly four times more than the passenger-side mirror alone. This feature is available on vehicles like the 2017 Honda Accord.

The Honda Sensing™ suite includes multiple driver assist features. Honda Sensing is available on numerous vehicles, including the 2017 Honda CR-V.

If your vehicle begins to stray from the center of a detected lane without signaling, the Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) feature adjusts the steering to help bring you back to the lane center. Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Low-Speed Follow helps you maintain a set following interval on the highway, so you don’t have to manually change your speed, while Road Departure Mitigation System (RDMS) works with a small camera that sees road markers and alerts you if youre about to leave the road. The Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) helps brake the vehicle when it senses an otherwise unavoidable collision with a vehicle detected in front of you.

If you’re interested in learning more, stop by our Van Nuys, CA area Honda dealership and our sales team will be happy to walk you through the parking technologies available and the vehicles equipped with your preferred driver assist feature.

Honda CR-V History

For over 58 years, the Honda brand has produced innovative vehicles that are reliable, technologically savvy, and comfortable. At Keyes Honda, we believe one vehicle, in particular, has stood out over time as setting the standard for the compact crossover segment.

When the original Honda CR-V debuted in North America in 1997, its mission was simple: to offer a more compact and convenient alternative to the midsize and full-size SUVs that were gaining in popularity. The Honda CR-V was an instant hit. With a car-based design, economical four-cylinder engine and sedan-like ride and handling the Honda CR-V quickly became a favorite amongst drivers throughout North America. The Honda CR-V still offered plenty of passenger room and cargo capacity and found a loyal fan base with its perfect blend of size, power, and capability.

The Honda CR-V has been through a few redesigns over the years, the first one in 2002. The 2002 Honda CR-V saw a new i-VTEC engine and greater cargo space. In 2005, the Honda CR-V received a refreshed appearance and in 2010, the vehicle received a new aerodynamic look. Throughout the years, the Honda CR-V has remained true to its starting mission. Focusing on practicality, the Honda CR-V remains one of the best choices available in the crossover category. It is spacious, thoughtfully designed, has plenty of extras, and is backed by the exemplary build quality the Honda brand is famous for.

We are proud to carry the Honda CR-V at our Los Angeles, CA area Honda dealership, and look forward to showing our customers the latest Honda CR-V and its innovative features.

If you have your hand’s full, the tailgate is also available with a hands-free option that allows you to open or close the tailgate with a wave of your foot under the bumper. Another pet-friendly feature included in the Honda CR-V is the dual-zone automatic temperature control system. When in automatic mode, the system will maintain the pre-set temperature by automatically cooling or heating as required, keep you and your pets comfortable.

Prepping Your Car for Warmer Weather

At Keyes Honda, we feel quite lucky to be located in the Los Angeles, CA area. We’re usually spoiled with abundant sunshine and warm temperatures. Though, as we start making our way into spring and summer, the temperatures can be extremely hot and it is important that you take steps to prepare your vehicle for the warmer weather.

Spring can be a great time to perform an annual cleaning and checkup on your vehicle. One thing you want to check regularly is the air pressure and tread on your tires. While the weather here allows us to keep all-season or summer tires on our vehicles year round, it is still important to continually check the air pressure and wear on the tires. Proper tire inflation assures the best possible contact between the tires and the road. An improperly inflated tire can overheat, potentially leading to a blowout on the highway.

Inspect other areas of your vehicle such as the air conditioning system and the wiper fluid and wiper blades. The rubber on your wiper blades can dry out in the heat, so it is important to have your wiper blades in good condition. Once you turn your A/C system on, pay attention to any strange noises or odors. If you suspect something strange, bring your vehicle to your Honda service center and let the expert technicians inspect your vehicle.

The expert Honda service center at our Honda car dealership is ready to help you with all of your warmer weather vehicle needs. We will perform a full tune-up on your car and make sure it has the correct oil, the engine coolant is clear, and that all the belts and hoses are in good condition. We’ll also check to make sure all the parts of your car battery are functioning properly, as the battery tends to work even harder in the hot summer months. It is easy to schedule a service appointment online, and our technicians work extended hours to work around your busy schedule. We also have an extensive inventory of Honda parts to help fix or equip your vehicle to as new of condition as possible. We hope to see you soon!

Safe Driving Tips from Keyes Honda

One thing we love at Keyes Honda is taking our vehicles out on the roads around the beautiful state of California. We are spoiled with gorgeous views, off-road trails, and city culture. As driving can be an everyday occurrence it starts to become second nature. Though, it’s important to remember a few safe driving tips to help keep you alert and safe while on the road.

There are a number of simple tips you can follow to ensure you keep yourself and your passengers safe. We have all been there—being distracted in one way or another while driving. In order to best keep safe, try and limit all distractions. Don’t text and drive or check emails on your cellphone. Distractions can also include feeling sleepy while behind the wheel. If you are feeling groggy or tired, it is a good idea to pull over somewhere safe until you feel rested enough to drive. It’s also important to remember if bad weather strikes, you should drive with extra caution. Keep your speed low and maintain extra space between you and the car in front of you. If visibility is poor, it may be best to pull off the road to somewhere safe until the weather passes.

Your Los Angeles, CA area Honda dealer is stocked with Honda car models that are equipped with the latest safety features. The 2017 Honda Accord and many other Honda vehicles are available with Honda Sensing™, a suite of safety and driver-assistive technologies designed to alert you to things you might miss when driving. If you are looking for something in the SUV category, consider the incredibly popular Honda CR-V. The Honda CR-V is known for its advanced safety and technology features, and the 2017 model is no exception. Safety features include blind-spot detection, rear cross-traffic monitor, auto high-beam headlights and a remote engine start.

Remember to stay aware and cautious when driving and if you want to check out the new safety features available on our new Honda models, please stop by our Los Angeles, CA Honda dealership.

Honda CR-V, Honda HR-V and Honda Fit Receive “2017 Best Cars for the Money” Award

U.S. News & World Report recently announced their picks for the 2017 Best Cars for the Money Awards. And at Keyes Honda, we are proud to say the Honda CR-V, Honda HR-V and Honda Fit each took home the top honor in their respective categories*. The 2017 Honda CR-V won the top position in the subcompact SUV category, the Honda HR-V retained its top position in the subcompact SUV category and the Honda Fit earned first place in the subcompact car segment, which marks the third year in a row the Honda Fit has won**.

The U.S. News & World Report Best Car for the Money awards highlight the cars, trucks, SUVs and minivans that give drivers the best of both worlds: value and an outstanding ownership experience. Each award winner has the best combination of quality and value in each of their respective classes.

U.S. News & World Report measures quality by using data from their car rankings, which includes unbiased, consumer-focused car shopping advice. Combining their own set of tests and opinions to rank vehicles, U.S. News & World Report analyzes every published and credible review of a given model, and combines that analysis with hard safety and reliability data. To measure value, U.S. News & World Report teamed with the pricing experts at TrueCar to find out the average prices people are paying for new cars right now. To get a long-term picture of how much each car costs to own, they worked with Vincentric to gather total cost of ownership data, which includes things like the cost of gas, insurance and repairs over five years. Pricing and ownership costs data are then combined to get a clear picture of each model’s overall value.

If you are in the Los Angeles, CA area and would like to learn more about these award-winning vehicles, the team at Keyes Honda is here to help. We will walk you through our inventory filled with the latest Honda cars and you can see for yourself why the Honda CR-V, Honda HR-V and Honda Fit are great vehicles.

* The 2017 CR-V, HR-V, and FIT have all been recognized by U.S. News as the Best Cars for the Money in their respective classes due to their long-term value and quality.

Honda and GM Join Forces on Fuel Cell Systems

At Keyes Honda, we are proud of how Honda is constantly pushing the boundaries of new vehicle technology and taking steps to do what is right for the environment. Just last week, the Honda brand and General Motors Co. announced the establishment of the auto industry’s first manufacturing joint venture to mass produce an advanced hydrogen fuel cell system that will be used in future products from each company. The automaker and GM have been working together through a master collaboration agreement announced in July 2013 that established the co-development arrangement for a next-generation fuel cell system and hydrogen storage technologies. The result? An integration of both companies’ development teams and shared hydrogen fuel cell intellectual property to create a more affordable commercial solution for fuel cell and hydrogen storage systems.

Fuel cell technology addresses many of the major challenges facing automobiles today: petroleum dependency, emissions, efficiency, range and refueling times. Fuel cell vehicles can operate on hydrogen made from renewable sources such as wind and biomass. Water vapor is the only emission from fuel cell vehicles. In addition to advancing the performance of the fuel cell system, GM and Honda are working together to reduce the cost of development and manufacturing through economies of scale and common sourcing. The two companies also continue to work with governments and other stakeholders to further advance the refueling infrastructure that is critical for the long-term viability and consumer acceptance of fuel cell vehicles.

Many of the latest Honda cars have focused on sustainable energy, like the Honda Clarity Fuel Cell, which received the best driving range rating from the EPA of any electric vehicle without a combustion engine with a range rating of 366 miles and fuel economy rating of 67 mpg highway*. In addition to current and future fuel cell vehicles, the Honda brand also produces a line of exceptional hybrid vehicles, like the new Honda Accord. We know our Los Angeles, CA area customers are big fans of this great vehicle.

We can’t wait to see what comes next from this exciting venture!

Leasing vs. Buying: What’s Better?

A question we often find our customers asking us at Keyes Honda is whether it is better to lease or buy their next car. Many factors can affect the decision like your lifestyle, needs and preferences, personal tastes and priorities. While there isn’t a perfect answer to this question, we hope we can provide our Los Angeles, CA area customers a quick overview of the advantages of buying and leasing.

Advantages of Leasing a Honda Vehicle

Leasing a Honda vehicle is a great choice when you want to maximize your dollar. Generally, you have lower monthly payments with a low—or no—down payment. You also have the option to drive a car with more options or better features than you might otherwise be able to choose when financing or buying a car. Another benefit of leasing is it easily allows you to transition to a new car every two or three years. If you are someone who gets a new car itch every few years, leasing may be a better option for you.

Advantages of Buying a Honda Vehicle

One of the best advantages to buying a Honda vehicle is that vehicle is yours. You can modify as you please and you can drive the vehicle as much as you like as there is no excess mileage penalty. You are able to build equity and you also have more flexibility since you can sell the car whenever you want. Over the long term, buying a car is usually more economical and allows you to keep your automotive costs as low as possible.

Both leasing and buying offer car buyers different advantages. If you are stuck between the two options, please stop by our Honda dealership and let our expert sales and finance teams help walk you through the pros and cons based on your personal situation. We regularly offer Honda specials on our new inventory, including the latest Honda cars, and on our used inventory. Our knowledgeable finance department is happy to help you when it comes to leasing or buying a Honda vehicle. We look forward to seeing you soon.

Honda Tops Sales in 2016

At Keyes Honda, we were ecstatic to learn that Honda has topped individual car buyer sales in America for 2016. The Honda Civic is the best-selling compact car* and the Honda Accord is the best-selling mid-size car**, the Honda CR-V is the best-selling compact CUV*** and the Honda Odyssey is the best-selling mid-size van**** in America. This makes it the 4th straight year that Honda has America’s most popular car, SUV, and minivan. If that wasn’t enough, Honda is the fastest growing automaker in the U.S. in retail sales, according to data from Automotive News. “We want to thank our customers for the trust they’ve placed in Honda, which is the basis for everything we do,” said Jeff Conrad, senior vice president and general manager of the Honda Division. “Retail sales are the results of customers voting with their wallets and pocketbooks, and we think that’s the only true measure of customer demand and product appeal.” At Keyes Honda, we know how much our Los Angeles, CA area customers love their Honda vehicles and it looks like many other Americans share that enthusiasm.

In addition to topping individual car buyer sales, Honda had many other year-end retail-sales achievements:
Honda Civic will post the all-time best sales performance in its 44-year history, making Civic America’s best-selling car with individual buyers.
Honda Accord will post a fourth straight year of retail sales leadership among midsize cars.
Honda CR-V will post a seventh straight year of sales gains and further cement its position as America’s best-selling SUV over the past 21 years.
Honda Odyssey will be the best-selling minivan with retail buyers for a seventh straight year.
Honda Civic, CR-V, and Accord will be the three highest retail-selling vehicles in the auto industry after full-size pickups and will combine for sales of more than 1 million units for the fifth straight year in 2016.

With a full line-up of spectacular vehicles, we can’t wait to see what happens in 2017!
